The SAC Alumni Association (SACAA) has chosen 21 outstanding alumni to receive the prestigious Lighthouse Awards for 2024. These alumni are being recognised for their outstanding contributions to their families, communities, organisations and the nation, making a lasting impact towards national development. St Augustine’s College is recognised as a firm foundation for the nurturing of productive citizens with sound education and noble character. Led by President Dr Anastacsia M Brown, SACAA will host a “Junkanoo Masquerade – Celebrating the Big Red” on October 19, 2024 at the Grand Ballroom, Atlantis Resort, Paradise Island. Oaktree Medical serves as the title sponsor, and SACAA has an extraordinary night of food, fun and cultural entertainment planned.
The Lighthouse Awards and Gala will celebrate 21 individuals, including Alumni of the Year, Algernon Cargill and the Alumna of the Year, Daphne DeGregory-Miaoulis.
Cargill is an outstanding figure in finance and business administration in The Bahamas. With a professional career that has included executive positions in banking, he was recognized by CIBC bank as one of the most outstanding 22 employees from a pool of more than 30 thousand. This recognition culminated in him receiving the President’s Award in 2000. Cargill has also served as the Director and CEO of the National Insurance Board, the Director of Aviation, and currently serves as the Chairman of Progressive Pharmaceuticals Ltd and PAS Pharmaceuticals Ltd, an organization that includes the Friendly Pharmacy group of companies. Cargill has also served as a Director on several corporate boards that include Cable Bahamas Ltd, Commonwealth Brewery Ltd, The Bank of the Bahamas, the Disaster Reconstruction Authority and the Insurance Commission of The Bahamas.
DeGregory-Miaoulis and her husband Nick Miaoulis together operate Abaco Neem Limited, the only Certified Organic Farm in the Bahamas. The company produces over 23 different Neem health, beauty, pet and agriculture products. They are both proud to be able to participate in the expansion of Bahamian agricultural business by producing a value added product that can also contribute to the well-being of the country. They believe that where there is no agriculture, there is no culture. Without the farmer people cannot eat and that it is possible for the farmers of the Bahamas to grow successfully and organically to feed the Nation and support a healthier Bahamas. Over the past twenty years, the Neem product line has grown in popularity within the Bahamas and around the globe and today, they export to anywhere that DHL delivers.
Dwayne A Davis will be awarded as the SAC Alumni of the Decade. SACAA Lighthouse Awardees also include: Brynda Knowles, the SAC Alumni Spotlight Award; Shantell Cox-Hutchinson, the SAC Alumni Humanitarian Award; Jeffrey Leonard Lloyd, The SAC Alumni Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award; Devynne Charlton, the SAC Alumni Achievement – Sports; Dr Monique A Francis-Hinsey, Alumni Achievement Awards – Education; Hiltina Scott, the SAC Alumni Spirit Award; Christopher Saunders, the SAC Alumni Achievement Awards – Journalism; and Melissa A Darville, the SAC Alumni Achievement Awards – Business.
The SAC Alumni Spotlight Award goes to Nicholas Rees; Anthony Bostwick will receive the SAC Alumni Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award; Bishop Valentino Williams will receive the SAC Alumni Achievement Award – Religion; Charles Michael Wright will be given the SAC Alumni Spotlight Award; and DR Linda Davis will receive the SAC Alumni Distinguished Achievement Award – Education.
Senator Michael Halkitis will receive the SAC Alumni Distinguished Achievement – Finance; Former Minister Melanie Griffin will receive the SAC Alumni Spotlight Award; James Clarke will receive the SAC Alumni Uncle Lou Award; Dion Cunningham will receive the Alumni Achievement Award – the Arts; and the Davis Family will be honoured with the SAC Alumni Legacy Award.
