22 Haitian Nationals Convicted In The Magistrates Court

Today, twenty-two (22) Haitian nationals appeared before Senior Magistrate Raquel Whyms in Magistrate’s Court No. 5. Among them, twenty were convicted of Overstaying, and two were convicted of Illegal Landing. All individuals pleaded guilty to the charges.

The group received fines ranging from $300.00 to $3,000.00, and sentences from one (1) month
to one (1) year at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services (BDOCS). All individuals were
ordered to be handed over to the Department of Immigration upon payment of fines or
completion of sentences for deportation.

Visitors and permit holders alike, are reminded that it is an offence to remain in The Bahamas
beyond the period permitted. Individuals found in breach of the Immigration laws may be subject
to arrest, prosecution, and deportation. We encourage the public to report immigration
