25 Haitian Nationals Apprehended In “Operation Hope” – Abaco

The Department’s Enforcement Unit in Abaco apprehended twenty-five (25) Haitian nationals, 24 males and 1 female, during a three-day enforcement operation conducted throughout Hope Town, Abaco, from September 28–30, 2026.

Dubbed “Operation Hope,” the Immigration-led exercise was conducted with the assistance of the Royal Bahamas Police Force. Those apprehended were found in breach of various immigration requirements: eleven (11) with delinquent immigration fees, six (6) who had overstayed, six (6) who had landed illegally, and two (2) who were working outside the scope of their work permits.

The operation also resulted in the collection of $24,600.00 in delinquent immigration fees. The detainees were transported from Hope Town to the Abaco mainland and secured at the Immigration Holding Facility at the Marsh Harbour Government Complex. They will be transported to New Providence today and will subsequently appear before the Magistrate’s Court.

Operation Hope forms part of the Department’s ongoing enforcement initiatives throughout Abaco and its surrounding cays. Members of the public are encouraged to report immigration violations or suspicious activity by contacting the hotline at 242-604-0180 or 242-604-0171/82.
