26 Foreign Nationals Convicted In The Magistrates Court

On Tuesday, March 10, twenty-five (25) Haitian nationals and one (1) Nigerian national appeared before Senior Magistrate Algernon Allen Jr. in Magistrate’s Court No. 1 for immigration offences. Eighteen Haitian men and seven Haitian women, along with one Nigerian man, were convicted of Overstaying, while two Haitian men were convicted of Illegal Landing.

The group received fines ranging from $300.00 to $3,000.00, and sentences from three (3) months to two (2) years at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services (BDOCS). All individuals were ordered to be handed over to the Department of Immigration upon payment of fines or completion of sentences for deportation.

The Department reiterates its call for full compliance with the immigration laws of The Bahamas, as enforcement action will be taken against anyone found in violation.
