90M NP Road Paving Program Re-Launched

Bahamian Media News:

The Minister of Works and Family Island Affairs, the Hon. Clay Sweeting announced the commencement of a road paving project in December of last year.

Officials of the Ministry of Works are giving an update on the progress of the project.  Senior Civil Engineer, Francis Clarke told ZNS News, “we started off with Lincoln Blvd. We’ve completed one half.  The road pavement program consists of 65 roads which equates to 55 miles of road which we’re gonna be paving.  We started with Lincoln Blvd.   We have four phases and we are on the first phase at this time.  The first phase is supposed to be completed within three to four months.”

Clarke added, “the road project has two components.  It is drainage mitigation and also paving.  So areas where there are drainage issues we will address those issue to resolve all of the flooding issues.  We have $20 million to spend within the first quarter of 2024.  And so we’ve prepared tender documents to award contracts to private contractors.  These tender documents will be placed on our Bonfire system and once we award contracts we expect the contractors to complete these works within the first quarter or the first third of 2024.”

According to Clarke, works will be carried out between the hours of 9am and 2:30pm.
