During a press conference held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, the Ministry of Tourism, Investments and Aviation, in collaboration with the Freetown Heritage Committee, announced the ninth Annual Old Freetown Fire Hearth Food & Heritage Festival.
The event will take place on Whit Monday, June 9, from 12 noon until, at the Freetown Heritage Site in East Grand Bahama.
This day-long celebration promises fun traditional games and competitions for both residents and visitors, including a watermelon eating contest, rake and scrape dance off, and more family friendly activities that celebrate Bahamian culture.
A special highlight of the evening will be the bonfire, where guests can gather around enjoying music and roast marshmallows over an open flame.
Representative of the Freetown Festival Committee, Marcus Cooper shared that the festival will showcase live entertainment by local artists, including Wendi, the Island Vibes Band, and other performers. Attendees can also indulge in Bahamian cuisine served throughout the day.
MOTIA will provide bus transportation for guests from hotels in the Freeport area, with pick-up scheduled for 1:00pm and return at 6:00pm.
The community of Grand Bahama and all visitors to the island are warmly invited to take part in this vibrant celebration of food, music, and Bahamian culture.
