The 67th Caribbean Public Health Agency’s (CARPHA) Annual Health Research Conference was officially opened with a ceremony held at the Atlantis Resort, Paradise Island on Thursday. The theme for this year’s conference is ‘Caribbean Health and Tourism: Pathways to Recovery and Resilience’. The keynote address was delivered by Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis via prerecorded video.

Executive Director of CARPHA Dr. Joy St. John addressed the gathering saying, “the conference this year is therefore nestled in a week of regional level strategic thinking, action and policy agreement the likes of which have not been seen in the Caribbean for about a decade. As we move forward and expend our efforts on recovery and resilience we have the opportunity to reflect on the best practices that were employed during these past dreadful years of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Minister of Health and Wellness, the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville was also on hand at the ceremony. During his remarks he said, “member states can have the finest tourism, agriculture and financial products in the world, but if our people are unwell or if their basic health needs are compromised then the expected economic and social progress for all of our countries will not be realized.”

The two day conference ends on April 29th.
