The Minister of Health and Wellness addressed the issue of boarders at the Princess Margaret Hospital while at a press conference.

The Hon. Dr. Michael Darville said, “we have resolved that issue.  We had boarders who are now moved to a secondary facility, some of them still need care, some of them have been discharged up to about a year ago and no family member will come to claim them.  It is a responsibility for us at the PHA and the Ministry of Health to ensure that we create bedspace and find alternative spaces for those individuals who do not need medical care but are on our wards.”

Darville went further explaining how geriatric boarders are being addressed, “we are now looking at creating additional partnerships in the public sector to be able to assist us in addressing the complicated social issues that sometimes overflow into our tertiary healthcare facilities.”
