The Minister of Social Services, Information and Broadcasting, the Hon. Myles Laroda assured the public that there will be no reduction in the amount offered for social assistance. He made the comments while addressing the House Of Assembly on Wednesday.
Laroda said, “food rates were in fact increased in January 2023 to the amounts ranging from $92 per month to $208 per month based on the number of dependents in the household. I take this opportunity to remind persons that social assistance is not an entitlement but is issued as an assessment conducted and persons found to be in the greatest need are assisted. It should also be noted that there is also a right of appeal if the approval is not initially granted.”
