Retired police officer, Keith Mason has penned a new book entitled, ‘Born To Lead: The Journey Of A Lifetime’. The book tells the story of Mason’s career as a member of the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF).
The former Deputy Commissioner was recruited to the RBPF from the island nation of Barbados. He said, “1955 the then Deputy Commissioner of Police came to Barbados for recruitment. Myself and my best friend, Earl Alleyne, decided we were gonna make an effort to see if we could be recruited. And so, providence, God’s guidance, the spiritual leading, whatever it was at the time, of the twenty men selected, we were two of the twenty.”
According to Mason there were less than three hundred men on the force when he joined. “When I joined the force there were only male police officers. When I left the force there were male and female police officers. In fact today there are two female assistant commissioners and I’m looking very shortly for them to be a commissioner. The greatest evolution for me was bicycle patrol. When we got bicycles and were patrolling on bicycles rather than walking the beat that was an evolution.”
Mason hopes his book inspires Bahamians.
