BTVI Contract Negotiations

BTVI Contract Negotiations

Bahamian Media News:

Plans are in place for the first industrial agreement for the faculty of the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI) to be signed. After close of a year of negotiations a draft of the agreement has been forwarded to the institution for their consideration.

President of the Union of Tertiary Educators of The Bahamas Daniel Thompson gave an update saying, “I think it is important that we note that though the government on the one hand advocates and support good industrial relations, we find that many of these individual organizations have their own culture, have their own mindset and have their own objectives. And unfortunately, I use the expression, its as if the didn’t get the memo. They try to do their own stuff and that is what is causing, often times, a lot of the problems within these organizations. And so we hope that BTVI will follow the memo and bring us back hopefully during labour week to sign yet another industrial agreement which is in support of and consistent with this government’s approach to maintaining good labour relations.”
