Celebrating 51 Years Of Independence

Bahamian Media News:

The Bahamas will celebrate its 51st independence on July 10th. Rector of Christ Church Cathedral, the Very Rev. Harry Bain gave his views on the upcoming celebration.

He said, “as a nation we need to focus on loving our neighbours as ourselves and helping those who are at the bottom. Those who are poor and haven’t had the opportunities to improve themselves, helping them along the way. Not necessarily handouts, but helping to educate them and to point them in the right direction and to support them along the way until the get to the point of being able to stand on their own two feet.”

Rev. Bain added, “once you love your neighbour as yourself I believe you’d have less of the killings, the crimes that we have against, ourselves really. Because who the child might be or the youngster or the teenager or the adult might be one murder is too many, one killing is too many, one more person in the prison is too many. It is all, I believe, because of the lack of the fundamental thing that our Lord said during the holy week period, a new commandment that I give you that you love one another.”

The annual national ecumenical service will be held on Tuesday July 9th.
