Eleuthera Electricity Relief By September

Bahamian Media News:

Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) Chief Operating Officer, Toni Seymour appeared at the press briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister on Thursday where she addressed the power generation challenges being experienced on the island of Eleuthera.

During her presentation Seymour apologized to Eleuthera residents and laid out the company’s plan to bring resolution to the issue. “We plan to install an additional 5 megawatts of generation at our Rock Sound Power Station to increase reliability of what is considered to be an aging plant, 6 megawatts of rental generation at the Hatchett Bay Power Station and we are also upgrading the sub-C cable between the mainland Eleuthera and Harbour Island to ensure that we are able to adequately meet the growing demands on Harbour Island,” she said.

The Chief Operating Officer expects that repairs should be completed by September. She said, “with the redundancy needed outages may occur but we are committed to making additional spares and replacement parts available in Eleuthera to avoid delays in shipment and to engage additional manpower with the expertise to expedite repairs.”

Seymour addressed the additional load on the family islands saying “as the load increases we have to make strategic decisions as to how were going to supplement our generation on those various islands and also New Providence.”
