Meteorology Cadets Graduate

Bahamian Media News:

Seventeen Bahamian students recently graduated from the Niccolo P. Small Meteorology Cadet Program.

Minister of Transport and Energy, the Hon. Jobeth Coleby-Davis addressed the graduates at a ceremony held at the Baha Mar Resort.  She said, “the establishment of the Niccolo P. Small Meteorology Cadet Program is a fulfillment of our pledge.  It is no secret that climate change is leading to more extreme weather and climate events such as longer and more intense heat waves, heavier rainfall and severe hurricanes.  Our vulnerability to the adverse impacts of the weather events is increasing in many areas.   It is a fact that our islands are low lying and that many Bahamians live near the sea.   By investing the Niccolo P. Small Meteorology Cadet Program the Government of The Bahamas is giving young Bahamians an opportunity to become meteorologists, scientists and foster a sense of environmental stewardship.”

According to the Minister the cadet program was launched in 2023 with nine cadets.   The lead lecturer for the program is veteran Meteorologist Basil Dean.
