No Complaints Early Into Crawfish Season

Bahamian Media News:

Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources, the Hon. Jomo Campbell is reporting no complaints thus far in the crawfish season which began on August 1st.

Campbell recently spoke with reporters about the importance of having a closed crawfish season.  He said, “the rules and regulations are there simply to protect the industry itself, to protect the product, protect the crawfish and to assist them, the fisherman, because we want to make sure that this is something that they can have at their disposal and ability for a long time.  It’s a vibrant industry, the fishing industry, and so you know we follow the rules it makes it better for everyone.”

The Minister also revealed that the market price of crawfish is under review by the Director of Marine Resources, Gregory Bethel.   Campbell said, “we’ve met with several of them over an extensive period.  You know we’ve had some pleasant conversations and some not so pleasant conversations but that’s what it’s all about.  We have to talk through these things before we get to an amicable agreement as to what is best for the Bahamian public as well as the fisherman because its their livelihood.”

The crawfish season ends March 31st.
