LW Young Jr High Back To School

Bahamian Media News:

Minister of Education and Technical and Vocational Training, the Hon. Glenys Hanna-Martin visited several schools on the first day of the new school year including L. W. Young Junior High School.

Seventh grade students were greeted by the Minister, Principal and staff of the school as they walked the red carpet into the school for the first time.  Principal Deborah Thompson said, “we want to welcome our new Eagles in from the primary school and we wanted to do it with a bang.  We have the red carpet rolled out for them.  We also have tea and hot chocolate, popcorn, we have fun and games for them.  We also have a first day of junior high school picture booth set up for them and the staff is out here to just welcome them to the eagles nest.”

Minister Hanna Martin shared her excitement about the first day of school.  She said, “the future of the country, the tone of the country will depend very much on what we do in these buildings and these place and in these spaces.  We have to work very hard because they one thing we know we cannot allow some of the things we’re seeing in this nation.  We have to shift the paradigm in this country and this is where I believe the hope for a great future lies, the young people in these classrooms.

The Minister was accompanied by Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of school policing, Dr. Chaswell Hanna and other senior officers.
