Freeport Container Port Chief Resigns

Bahamian Media News:

Chief Executive Officer of the Freeport Container Port, Alan Dixon has resigned.  This comes after auditors arrived on Grand Bahama to investigate company practices after a letter from employees voicing their concerns about Dixon’s leadership was made public.

An anonymous stakeholder told ZNS News the news of Dixon’s departure is as if a burden has been lifted.  The person said, “now it feels that there’s hope and the people now look ahead with anticipation of what’s do come.”

The letter authored by Container Port employees alleged Dixon overspent, practiced nepotism, that a foreign engineer without the proper permits and that government officials were given gift to expedite work permits.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Progressive Liberal Party Chairman, the Hon. Fred Mitchell commented on this new development advocating for a Bahamian to take the top spot.  “It would certainly be our view from the Progressive Liberal Party that the next step ought to be the hiring of a competent Bahamian who’ll run the facility and carry out the objectives which the company said it was committed to.”

Mitchell added, “one thing you can say about the Progressive Liberal Party is that they act on behalf of the upliftment of the people of the country.”

Dixon was with the company for three years.  According to a letter from the Container Port’s Human Resource Department the reason for Dixon’s departure was due to family reasons.
