Central And South Abaco: It’s Time To Move On From Trailers

Bahamian Media News:

The decision has been made for Abaco residents living in RVs provided as temporary accommodations in the wake of Hurricane Dorian to move out as they are no longer fit for occupation.

The Member of Parliament for Central and South Abaco, the Hon.  John Pinder spoke with ZNS News about the pending evictions.  He said, “five years on there’s is serious health and safety issues at hand  including black fly and mold and if a tropical storm comes they will be blown over and be collateral damage for other buildings surrounding it, so on and so forth.  So the DRM put a tentative date on removal of all trailers.”

Pinder confirmed that a stakeholder meeting was held and the end of October has been determined as when the trailers will be removed.  He said, “the DRM has been collecting information.  They did a survey back in March, I believe, and they’re still collecting more information on the different residents to make sure that those that are most needy in terms of accommodations will be helped through the various government agencies.”

The Abaco MP added of the trailer occupants, “I was very surprised that the vast majority, almost all, knew that this time was coming.”

The trailers that are currently located near the government complex in Marsh Harbour will be discarded when empty.
