It was reported over the weekend that a judge in New York ruled in favor of Sarkis Izmirlian’s BML Properties Ltd. over China Construction America in a long running lawsuit. BML was awarded approximately $1.6 billion by Justice Andrew Borrok who adjudicated the case.
Former Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis is calling for an independent investigation into the Baha Mar deal. Dr. Minnis spoke with reporters on the matter outside of the House of Assembly on Wednesday. He said, “I think we need a commission of inquiry. The Bahamas is getting a black eye over this entire event.”
Dr. Minnis added, “The Bahamas needs to sit down and we need a purging. We need to reset the button. We need a purging so that we can reset the button and move forward, a new Bahamas.”
Acting Prime Minister, the Hon. Chester Cooper responded to Dr. Minnis’ comments citing investor confidence is high in the country. He said, “foreign direct investment is good for the growth of our economy and its good for the Bahamian people and therefore anyone who seeks to talk down the economy is not acting in the best interest of our country.”
Justice Borrok ruled that China Construction America defrauded Izmirlian’s BML Properties Ltd. and breached breached their agreement.
