Minister of Health and Wellness, the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville was the guest speaker at a meeting of the Rotary Club of East Nassau recently where he spoke about the economic potential of the cannabis industry.
Dr. Darville said, “the days will soon be gone where our 5,000 plus patients who are benefiting from medical cannabis can access it in country and benefit from the therapeutic affects associated with cannabis.”
He added, “we want to create an industry. We just don’t want to import products. We want to create an industry so Bahamians can participate in this industry both locally and to be able to export products to countries with similar legislative frameworks and benefit financially from the export.”
According to the Minister, the Cannabis Bill which was passed earlier this year will be enacted soon. Dr. Darville also spoke about the selection process for someone to lead the Cannabis Authority. He said, “the individuals who names are being presented…they have to have a certain qualification and the vetting process must be done.”
