Bahamasair Suspends Haiti Flights

Bahamian Media News:

Bahamasair announced its suspension of flights into Haiti on Tuesday after continued unrest in the country.  The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ordered all US Flights to suspend service into Haiti after aircrafts belonging to Spirit Airlines, JetBlue and American Airlines were all found to be hit by gunfire in Haiti.

Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation, the Hon. Chester Cooper told reporters, “everyday, every week we make the assessment as to whether we continue service from time to time we have paused the service until the environment stabilizes.”

Cooper added,” any issue that destabilizes Haiti is a concern for The Bahamas due to our close connectivity of our peoples as well as the close proximity of our country to Haiti.”The airport in the Haitian capital is also closed.

The Bahamas is currently part of a multinational peacekeeping coalition in Haiti.  “It’s been important for The Bahamas to have a place at the table in terms of the advance team for reconnaissance.  We have a commitment due to our proximity and the close connections between our countries to be naturally very concerned,” Cooper sai

No information was given on when Bahamasair will resume its flights to Haiti.
