Department of Gender & Family Affairs conducts CEDAW training

The Department of Gender & Family Affairs of the Ministry of Social Services, Information and Broadcasting, is conducting a two-day training workshop, November 12-13, focused on the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). The workshop to build capacity, according to Deputy Permanent Secretary Melvelyn Symonette, is being held at the Hearing Room, Aventura Plaza, John F. Kennedy Drive. Participants in the workshop include government officers, stakeholders and school students. Also in attendance — CEDAW official, Marion Bethel, who said that there is still a need for strong advocates, who can continue to push for resolution to issues facing women and children in the country. Also present: Founder of the CEDAW Committee of Trinidad & Tobago, Terry Ince.
