Consumer Affairs & Protection Building Opening

Bahamian Media News:

Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis and the Minister of Economic Affairs, Sen. Hon. Michael Halkitis along with other government officials attended the official opening of the offices of the Consumer Protection Commission on Tonique Williams-Darling Highway on Monday.

While addressing the ceremony held for the occasion Davis said, “our commitment to you the Bahamian people is to bring immediate relief and stability. But our vision goes beyond economic recovery, it extends to compassionate social relief, enhanced security and safeguarding your rights as consumers. In essence protecting consumer rights is our investment in you. It is about your well being, your health, your safety and your economic prosperity. As we opening this building today we are united in our shared vision for a fairer and equitable Bahamas. A Bahamas where every consumer is protected, every voice is heard and every right is respected.”

Davis also spoke to proposed changes to be made to the Consumer Protection Act. “Amendments are coming and there about giving you the consumers and louder voice and stronger rights,” he said.

For his part, Minister Halkitis spoke to the digitalization of the inspection process and other technological advances being implemented at the Commission with the goal of responding to claims in real time.
