Bahamasair Staff Sickout

Bahamasair Staff Sickout

Bahamian Media News:

Staff members at Bahamasair staged a sickout on Wednesday impacting the airlines services.  Management of the nation’s flag carrier convened a press conference to address the matter early Wednesday morning.

Managing Director, Tracey Cooper informed reporters that 12 of 16 flight attendants did not report for work.  Cooper also addressed the demands of the Airport Airline & Allied Workers Union (AAAWU).  He said, “they were looking for six additional increments to be added to salaries along with back pay.  Bahamasair is in disagreement with this position and it would require us to reopen the agreement and add an increment to a contract that was already given 11.5% salary and five increments.”

Cooper called the industrial action surprising and not in the interest of good relationship.  “Therefore management is demanding that all staff return to work as this is an illegal action by the union.”

Bahamasair management promised to continually provide updates on affected flights.
