Environmental Protection

Bahamian Media News:

The Minister of Environment and Natural Resources is encouraging Bahamians to continue to fight to protect the country for future generations.

The Hon. Vaughn Miller said, “it is believed that we have the largest sea grass beds in the world. And so that’s great for us. In terms of our mangroves, we have the largest mangrove nursery system in the Caribbean and the western world. Now, we are also in the direct path of hurricanes. So they call it where we’re located, the hurricane zone or the hurricane alley.”

The Minister went further stating, “in terms of the in the age and the dispensation of carbon credits and what they mean for us, our wetlands critically important, our forests critically important. Again the forests in Northern Abaco, the forests in eastern Grand Bahama during Dorian, devastated. And so, reforestation is about to begin to occur in those areas.”
