A Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) vessel on a mission near Haiti returned to the country to undergo repairs after experiencing technical issues.
RBDF Commodore, Dr. Raymond King spoke with reporters about the vessel on Sunday while attending the annual church service of the Royal Bahamas Police Force. He said, “the HMBS Lawrence Major would have arrived in Great Inagua this morning with all of the spares that we need to get those systems operational and to get that vessel out to sea.”
According to Dr. King the RBDF’s 60 meter vessels were acquired in 1998 and maintenance needs will increase as vessels such as the HMBS Lawrence Major continue to age.
Dr. King also commented about The Bahamas’ participation in the peacekeeping mission in Haiti. He said, “our secretariat office here at the Royal Bahamas Defence Force is in constant dialogue with the leadership of the mission. There are no concerns we have responded but I look forward to getting our 60 meter craft back into our area of operation.
