Bahamian Media News:

Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey believes that initiatives like the Bahamas Youth Leadership Development (BYLD) programme plays a pivotal role in developing the potential of young people, boosting their competitiveness on the global stage.

“As a result, I am elated to be here to support the launch of the BYLD program for 2025,” said Minister Moxey at Pelican Bay Resort on Saturday, January 18.

Attending the launch were students who are expected to participate in this year’s program, which for the first time included students from Bimini and Abaco, along with students from Grand Bahama. A similar launch is expected to take place for students in New Providence the following week.

“This phenomenal initiative has prepared countless students on Grand Bahama for life after graduation by providing them with fundamental knowledge and skills to become productive members of the community,” she said.

“Initiatives like BYLD is shaping our future leaders through practical experiences that enhance a high school curriculum, contributing to the creation of responsible, enterprising young adults, who are able to function post-graduation.”

The Grand Bahama Minister commended Mr. Zhivargo Laing for his vision and commitment to encouraging young people to choose a path of personal success. She noted that the seminars, workshops, trips, corporate tours and interaction with leaders of various sectors of the community are impactful. Adding that these experiences stimulate determination, creativity and leave a lasting impression on students.

“The future of Grand Bahama is bright. There is a lot happening. There is over two billion dollars of real investment on the island right now and this provides endless opportunities for all of you.”

Founder of the Bahamas Youth Leadership Development programme, Zhivargo Laing said the programme was started over 14 years ago when he was a Parliamentarian. The inspiration came from an experience he had as a tenth-grade high school senior, when he and another student were selected as the first students from The Bahamas to participate in a USA program called the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Program.
