Current president of the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce, James Carey will leave the position after his third term at the helm.
Carey reflected on his time at the Chamber in a recent interview with ZNS News. He said, “my experience has been that you can’t dictate to the government what they ought to do. It’s best to try to work with them and encourage them along a certain path with whatever influence one has.”
The outgoing president also recognized retired Executive Director of the chamber Mercynth Ferguson as the reason for his growth. “She was the chamber. She for twenty five years was the guiding light in the chamber here, steered a lot of presidents and me being no exception.”
Carey’s advice for the incoming president is to pay attention to what’s happening on the ground, try to work with all parties, ensure their agenda is compatible with that of the authorities of Grand Bahama and to not neglect the community.
The annual general meeting of the Grand Bahamas Chamber of Commerce is set to take place on February 26th.
