Minister of National Security and Member of Parliament for Freetown, the Hon. Wayne Munroe commented on the murder of Mario Brown that occurred in his constituency this past Sunday.
Munroe spoke of Brown’s impact on young men in the community. He said, “some statistics for that division showed that his work was having some results and so from that perspective it is unfortunate that a young man, regardless of what he may have done in the past, at this point of his life was making a positive contribution in controlling the young men in that area to try to turn away from negative actions and lifestyles. It is a symptom of what is happening in this country. I’ve seen that the video went around on social media. And so anyone who has somebody who is one of those three young men who could do this that’s the clearest proof that your son is not a good boy, that’s the clearest proof that your son is really a menace to this society.”
The national security minister emphasized that parents need to become a part of the solution. “I understand that there was a second murder on that same day at a different location where there is some speculation and conversation that the victim in that case was not the intended victim. So persons who are habouring these young men who practice this type of behaviour its a warning that it can happen around you, it’s a warning that we need to stop that type of behaviour and it’s a message to you that if your young sons, your young men are doing this you need to become a part of the solution,” Munroe said.
The second murder occurred on Finlayson Street where a 23 year old woman was killed.
