Road Traffic Act Amendments Addressed

Bahamian Media News:

The Minister of Transport and Housing commented on amendments to the Road Traffic Act regarding the rental of private vehicles as self drive vehicles.

The Hon. Jobeth Coleby-Davis said, “because the insurance part of the SDs or taxis or liveries cover other drivers in a particular way with other passengers we had to make sure that it was clear that it is not allowed to use private vehicles for that other sort of transportation which is public, rental, passenger drive. And so that amendment was just to increase the penalty so that persons understand that it is not acceptable to add in private vehicles and have it leased or rented out as a self drive as a part of your AirBnB package.”

According to the Minister the main focus of the amendments was to increase the penalties for violation of the law.
