Mrs. Ann Marie Davis, wife of Prime Minister Philip Davis and Head of the Office of the Spouse of the Prime Minister, was the guest of honour and keynote speaker at the 2025 International Women’s Day (IWD) Luncheon on Saturday, March 8, at the Stone Crab Restaurant.
The luncheon was attended by women from various organizations, marking a significant moment to recognize their accomplishments and contributions.
Former Member of Parliament Loretta Butler-Turner, Grand Bahama Port Authority Acting Chairman Sarah St. George, Director of Operations at The Bahamas Destinations Carnival Corporation Michelle McGregor, Bahamian Celebrity Artist Ambassador Jamaal Rolle, and wife of Senator Kirkland Russell, Mrs. Patrice Russell, were among those in attendance.
In her keynote address, Mrs. Davis reflected on this year’s IWD theme, ‘Accelerate Action,’ describing it as more than just a slogan. She emphasized that it is a call to action — a movement aimed at uplifting and empowering women and girls throughout the islands.
“This is a day to recognize the strides we have all made and acknowledge the challenges that still lie ahead; and together we will strategize on how we can accelerate our efforts to create a world where every woman and every girl can thrive,” Mrs. Davis said.
She continued, “We must create environments where women feel safe, valued, and respected always. We must also provide opportunities for education and economic empowerment, ensuring that no woman or girl is left behind.”
Mrs. Davis urged the attendees to pledge their commitment to accelerating action, to become change-makers, and to inspire others to join the movement.
“Let us commit ourselves here today to building a world where every woman and girl can live free from fear and discrimination, where they can pursue their dreams and reach their fullest potential. And together, we can create a future where gender equality is not just an aspiration, but a reality.”
Attendees also participated in the creation of a unique art piece by Bahamian Celebrity Artist Ambassador, Jamaal Rolle.
The luncheon provided an opportunity for women to connect, reflect, and inspire each other.
