HOA: Mid-Year Budget Passed

Bahamian Media News:

The mid-year budget passed in the House Of Assembly on Monday following a wrap up address by Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Hon. Philip Davis.

Mr. Davis told Parliamentarians fiscal discipline and strategic planning were pivotal to the revival of the economy.  He said, “when you see an economy that is growing, when you see jobs returning, when you see record investments flowing into this country, you do not need to be told what success looks like. It is happening. It is real and it is only possible because of the faith, the perseverance and the sheer resilience of the Bahamian people.”

The Prime Minister said that international agencies, investors and economists have pointed to The Bahamas as a country on the rise. “They told us the economy would not recover. It has. They told us we could not attract investments. We have. They told us unemployment would not fall. It has. They told us we would not get spending until control. We did. They told us that government revenues would collapse. They have strengthened.”

Mr. Davis questioned the opposition asked if they accept that the economy has recovered.  Rising on a point of order, Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Michael Pintard said, “when the economy reopened, it reopened with a 14 then 10% economic growth rate and then it returned to pre-pandemic numbers. So to answer the Prime Minister, yes once an economy reopens, you expect an increase.”
