Bahamian Media News:

The Rehabilitation of Offenders Committee recently held a town hall meeting on the island of Grand Bahama to discuss their role. During the event ten people received record expungement certificates.

Recipient Valentino Bullard spoke about how the program has assisted in his turnaround. He said, “for my brothers out there, there’s a way. I feel like the rehabilitation is helping me a lot. This help me to grow myself to be a better person, to be a man now to say accept what I have done and to say if I want better I will do better.”

Persons received expungement for offences such as house breaking, drug related offences, and altercations with law enforcement officers.

Committee Member, Bishop Barry Moss told ZNS News about the expungement process on the sidelines of the event. He said, “of course it’s an interviewing collaboration with the police force, the rehabilitative arm of Social Services and, of course, with the committee. After they fill out their application they give us the necessary things that we need that’s requested on the application. We meet with talk with them. Once it is agreed that they meet the criteria by law we support and they are released to start life anew.”

Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey was on hand at the town hall meeting. The Collab Unit in the Harold DeGregory Building is being used as a meeting place for the committee.
