The 2024-2025 mid-year budget passed in the Senate on Wednesday. Giving the final address during the debate was Minister of Economic Affairs, Sen. Hon. Michael Halkitis.

Responding to concerns raised by the opposition he said, “as we continue with our debt strategy we want to be able to reduce the cost of our debt and manage it and manage the maturities. The Prime Minister did say that part of our goal is within the next two to three years to return to investment grade. Part of that process of returning to investment grade is to be able to demonstrate to the markets that you can actually go to the market and raise money.”

Senator Halkitis also serves as leader of government business in the senate.
