Abaco Sees Improvement In Education

Bahamian Media News:

District Superintendent of Education for Abaco, Chester Cooper recently shared some of the positive results being realized in education on the island.

He said, “we have over 70% of our kids now who are actually maintaining a two point GPA and over. Our graduation rate would have increased year over. We also have increases in GLAT examinations, BJC, BGCSE. Now of course those increases are awesome because they’re not where we would like them to be.”

The District Superintendent says the improvements speaks to the hard work of teachers and students. Cooper says students realize “school in their training ground. This is not the end all, cause after here either you’re going to college or the workplace and understanding the importance of education.”

He went further commending teachers and administrators for their persistence in ensuring student receive a quality education. He also spoke about challenges. He said, “there’s some roadblocks and barriers to that wish that we have, for example, a lot of our kids are not motivated. There are distractions whereas a child prefers going on TikTok as opposed to doing homework. We have kids were parents aren’t involved as they should be. So we are working against those things and trying like I said to get our kids the best education possible.”
