BTC supports Exuma’s 69th annual National Family Island Regatta

Bahamian Media News:

As hundreds flock to the shores of George Town, Exuma for the National Family Island Regatta, which is slated for April 22 to 26, leading telecoms provider BTC has once again thrown its support behind this national event as a bronze sponsor.

“We are always grateful and humbled by the support of corporate Bahamas,” said Dallas Knowles, Commodore and Chairman of the National Family Island Regatta Committee.

“BTC has been one of our longest running sponsors of theregatta and we are very happy to have them onboard once again. We would not be able to pull off this event without the support of corporate Bahamas and companies like BTC. We hope that BTC will get some exposure from this year’s event, and wethank them for their support.”

Keisha Edwards, BTC’s Director of Commercial Operations said, “We’re thrilled to continue our long-standing partnership as a sponsor of the 69th National Family Island regatta. We believe in connecting our communities, not just through the services that we offer, but through shared experiences that bring us together. Our commitment to expanding connectivity throughout the islands ensures that every resident and visitor will stay connected at this year’s regatta. We look forward to supporting what will surely be an unforgettable weekend of competition, celebration, and community spirit.”

As a bronze sponsor of this year’s National Family Island Regatta, a special C or E class race will be held in BTC’s honor.  Meanwhile, Knowles also highlighted that this year’s National Family Island Regatta will feature many B class sloops – quite possibly the largest fleet that will ever sail all at once.

“We are expecting close to 40 boats in this class, and we’ve never had that many in any of the major regattas in The Bahamas. Overall, we will be approaching 90 boats in total to sail, which is the most this year. The National Family Island Regatta gets bigger and bigger every year. It’s the only open invitation regatta where anybody can come so the numbers keep going up,” said Knowles.

The regatta is also expected to feature much entertainment with top Bahamian talent and performances by the Royal Bahamas Police Force Band, KB, Dimitri Smith, D-Mac, and many others.

In 2024, sloop sailing was officially named as the National Sport of The Bahamas. This year, the National Family Island Regatta committee will recognize former commodore Danny Strachanfor his 31 years of service.
