DPM On Sampson Cay Project

Bahamian Media News:

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation, the Hon. Chester Cooper recently addressed environmental concerns surrounding the Rosewood Hotel being developed on Sampson Cay, Exuma. Residents and environmentalists have spoken out about the possible damage to the marine ecosystem in the area.

Cooper said, “we will continue to monitor the approval processes but DEPP has the authority to make decisions as it relates to the environment. If there are any environmental concerns the project will not happen. If DEPP is comfortable and satisfied that it can be managed then they will make those determinations. They will demand that there be changes if necessary but that process must run its course. Its an established process that’s been in place for decades and its going to run its course in line with the procedures and policies of the government of The Bahamas.”

When completed the Rosewood development will include 33 suites, dining options, an outdoor sport center and wellness sanctuary.
