A joint operation between Bahamas law enforcement and its OPBAT partners resulted in the seizure of suspected marijuana and cocaine on the island of Long Cay on Wednesday.
Superintendent Wendy Pearson of the Drug Enforcement Unit told reporters that a tip led officers to the drug seizure and arrest of suspects. “The officers observed a number of males offloading a number of packages onto a truck. This truck was then observed going to a residence where these males were again seen offloading these packages into a shed. As a result of that officers from the Acklins District and Crooked Island District were notified where they went to this residence where they found five Bahamian males ranging in ages of 36 to 25 where they took those males to the shed, where they saw in plain view and number of croker sacks. When they were examined they contained marijuana and cocaine,” she said.
The five suspects are in custody and the drugs were brought to New Providence on Thursday at the Odyssey Airport. Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Roberto Goodman was on scene where he said, “for those drug traffickers who continue those drug trafficking organizations, who continue to try to traffic drugs in our Bahamaland I want you to know that Drug Enforcement Unit is out there and the police is out there. We work jointly with the US counterparts and we have our own law enforcement here, the Royal Bahamas Police Force and also the Defence Force who’ll also be able to protect our borders from illegal narcotics entering The Bahamas.”
Investigations into this latest drug find continues.
