Bahamian Media News:

Minister of the Labour and the Public Service, the Hon. Pia Glover-Rolle revealed a list of reforms that will be introduced to the public service during her contribution to the 2025-2026 budget debate on Wednesday.

Glover-Rolle said the government is systematically modernizing the Employment Act, the Industrial Relations Act, the Public Service Act and General Orders. She said, “these reforms introduce expanded maternity leave recognizing the importance of early childhood development and family bonding time. A new paternity leave policy that will acknowledge fathers roles in child rearing and family stability.”

According to the minister the government will introduce enhanced workplace harassment protection policies and protection for casual workers. “Casual workers at the Grand Bahama Shipyard and other properties will surely appreciate enhanced protections and stability for the important support they provide. Our remote work policies will acknowledge technological advances that make flexible employment arrangements possible while maintaining productivity and accountability. Among the other changes this reform will bring is an improvement to severance pay provisions to ensure that workers received fair compensation when employment ends,” she said.
