The St. Augustine’s College (SAC) Alumni Association is proud to announce that, thanks to the overwhelming generosity of its alums and sponsors, more than $30,500 has been awarded in scholarships and tuition grants to exceptional SAC students for 2025-2026.
This outstanding achievement is a direct result of the continued support from alums who pay their dues, purchase ads for the SAC Lighthouse Awards Gala ball souvenir booklet, donate to the SAC Alumni Scholarship & Tuition Grant Fund, and show up in substantial numbers to events such as the 2024 SAC Alumni Lighthouse Awards and Gala Ball. These contributions ensure that students receive the financial support necessary to access one of the finest
educational experiences in The Bahamas.
Special recognition goes to our 2024 SAC Alumnus of the Year, Mr. Algernon Cargill, and Mr. James Clarke, recipient of the 2024 Uncle Lou Spirit Award. Both men exemplify the values of leadership, service, and excellence that define the SAC legacy. We also sincerely thank SAC alumni Dr. Don and Kristi Deveaux of Oak Tree Medical, the title
sponsors of the 2024 Lighthouse Awards and Gala Ball. Their continued investment in our young scholars is a shining example of what it means to give back.
Dr. Anastasia Brow, president of the SAC Alumni Association, believes that “Providing these scholarships ensures students have access to the best education in The Bahamas. As a trained teacher, Director of Testing Services, and Adjunct Faculty in the School of Business at the University of The Bahamas, I know the value of academic excellence. My parents made the sacrifice of sending me to SAC. I remember times when they had to choose between paying my
school fees or buying Christmas gifts—and they always chose the school fee.
I will admit, I didn’t fully take advantage of my SAC education back then—I ‘C’d’ my way through school. But when I got to college, I realized everything I needed had already been taught at SAC. I wasn’t paying attention. That is why I understand the parents who fight to keep their children at SAC today. SAC help me to be the woman I am today and I dear say, many others whether they admit nor not.
Some say children can learn anywhere, and while I don’t disagree, the difference a SAC education makes is undeniable. We are not just preparing students. We are preparing leaders. And that’s why the Alumni Association is committed to expanding scholarships for current SAC students and those aspiring to become part of our proud tradition.”
The Association urges all alums, past awardees, business owners, and anyone who loves SAC or believes in giving students the best education possible to invest in the future of SAC students. Whether through an annual donation, sponsoring a student, purchasing ads or tables at our events, or simply paying your dues, your support makes a real difference.
St. Augustine’s College is not just a school. SAC is a place where well-rounded individuals are formed academically, socially, and spiritually. SAC doesn’t just prepare you for exams—it prepares you for life. SAC teaches you the importance of being on time, the value of a clean workspace, and the discipline to manage life’s many demands. We learned firsthand these things by cleaning our classrooms, balancing academics and extracurriculars, and showing up fully present in P.E., where many of our future athletes first discovered their talents.
Some think SAC “buys athletes,” but they don’t see that potential is spotted and nurtured right in those Physical Education classes. SAC doesn’t just build athletes; it builds character. Through clubs, community service, and school culture, SAC instills a sense of responsibility, discipline, and purpose. It teaches the value of giving back, a lesson we expect all SAC alums to carry throughout their lives.
And let’s not forget: SAC is one of the most affordable private schools in the Bahamas while maintaining one of the highest academic standards. Our GPAs are earned—not inflated. When you support SAC, you are supporting a system of excellence that’s real, tested, and life-changing. 2024 SAC Scholarship Recipients James Clarke Award
