Fueling the Next Generation: Nu Gaia Farm & Roker’s Gas Station Partner To Empower Local Farmers and Youth Farming

Bahamian Media News:

Mr. Peter Roker of Roker’s Gas Station (RGS) has joined forces with Dr. Rochelle Johnson, affectionately known as Farmer Shelly of Nu Gaia Farm, to launch a powerful partnership focused on sustainability, food security, and youth empowerment through agriculture.

This collaboration represents a shared commitment to endorse and promote the Nu Gaia Jr. Farmers’ Program, a unique initiative that teaches young Bahamians how to grow their own food, care for the environment, and embrace backyard farming as a tool for healthier communities and self-sufficiency.

Together, RGS and Nu Gaia Farm aim to raise awareness about the importance of local food systems and sustainable agri-practices by hosting educational workshops, hands-on demonstrations, and community outreach events.

As part of this new venture, RGS Farmers Market will officially launch this Saturday, featuring Nu Gaia Farm’s fresh, naturally grown produce, local natural raw honey, preserves, farm animal petting area, and chances to get answers to your backyard farming questions. The market will continue every Saturday and will be open to other local farmers, offering them a space to sell their goods, share their knowledge, and connect with the wider public.

“This is about re-learning our natural ability to produce our own food, it’s about legacy, sharing knowledge, empowering our future, and growing together,” says Dr. Johnson. “We’re planting seeds of change with every young person we encounter and nurturing growing minds eager to be eco-friendlier and more sustainable.”

Nu Gaia Farm encourages the public and local businesses to support this grassroots movement and be part of a brighter, greener Bahamas. Whether it’s mentoring, volunteering, donating/sponsoring, or simply shopping local, there’s a role for everyone. Come out this Saturday from 8am to 4pm and every Saturday to RGS Farmers Market, meet your local farmers, and take home the fresh taste of sustainability!
