Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation, the Hon. Chester Cooper commended Carnival Cruise Lines on the soft launch of Celebration Key during his contribution on land reform bills in the House of Assembly on Wednesday.
Cooper told Parliamentarians the first ship carrying 4,500 passengers is expected at the new cruise port located on the island of Grand Bahama this weekend. He said, “and the week after there will be two ships with 9,500 guests per day and when the additional pier is completed it will accommodate up to 18,000 guests per day.”
The tourism minister expresseds his delight and excitement for the opportunities the cruise port will create. “This is a $700 million investment with 500 Bahamians employed, 75 new direct retail businesses and there have been more than 29 Bahamian construction firms involved. There will be a myriad of outshoot opportunities in food and beverage and housing and transportation tours and experiences. A win for the Bahamian people.”
Cooper also commended Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis and Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey for their work to bring the project to fruition.
