Prime Minister and Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) Leader, the Hon. Philip Davis addressed supporters at a PLP Link Up event held on Monday.
Mr. Davis told the hundreds gathered on Windsor Park in New Providence that his administration is building a better future. He said, “every time we fix what they broke they show up to criticize. They left the clinics collapsing. When we build new ones, they complain. They ignored Grand Bahama. When we bring new investment, they complain.”
The Prime Minister added, “more Bahamians are working, more Bahamians are earning and more Bahamians are owning. Access to home ownership finally within reach for families who were told it could never happen. We said every Bahamian deserves a stake in their country and we are delivering. We are building new clinics, two new hospitals are on the way. One already under construction in Grand Bahama.”
The topic of foreign labour use was also addressed during the Prime Minister’s presentation. He said, “I’ve said it before and tonight I’ll say it again so there’s no confusion, we are not granting work permits for jobs Bahamians are qualified and ready to do, full stop.”
Mr. Davis reminded party supporters that while a lot has been done there is a lot left to do. He also called on PLPs to remain focused and committed. “With all my heart I believe that the Bahamian people will choose what is best for them and the country,” he said.
Mr. Davis spoke to the announcement of the introduction of biometric voting cards. He assured Bahamians that if they are currently on the register of voters that their names will not be removed from the register. “No one is being erased, no one is being left out. If you want your new card, one that fits in your wallet and doesn’t need to be hidden under your mattress or in a ziplock bag, go get your card. And if you don’t want it, that fine, but don’t let anyone lie to you, no one is taking away your right to vote.”
The Prime Min further stating, “we the PLP fought hard for you to have that right to vote. Why would we try to take it away from you now? This is the same FNM that had the country under curfews, lockdowns while they lock people out of food stores and made you apply for travel visas just to move around your own country and lock Bahamians up going to the pumps to get water for their sick grandparent. Now they want to talk about freedom.
