On today’s date, seven Haitian men appeared in Magistrate’s Court No. 2 before Assistant Chief Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux on charges of Overstaying. All pleaded guilty and were convicted.
All individuals were ordered to be handed over to the Department of Immigration for deportation upon payment of fines or completion of sentences.
Shortly after 9:00 a.m. today, three flights departed New Providence carrying twelve (12) Haitian nationals (nine females and two males) and one (1) Dominican male. The Haitian nationals were deported to Cap-Haitien, Haiti, and the Dominican national to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, respectively.
Further, between August 8 and 12, twenty-nine (29) foreign nationals were deported from New Providence to their respective home countries:
∙ 17 Haitian nationals
∙ 5 Cuban nationals
∙ 2 Dominican nationals
∙ 2 Jamaican nationals
∙ 1 Cape Verdean national
∙ 1 Ghanaian national
∙ 1 Mexican national
