New Water Main Brings Clean, Clear Water To Sea Breeze

Bahamian Media News:

Residents of Sea Breeze are finally feeling a communal sense of relief following the completion of a major water main upgrade on Joe Farrington Road after years of rusty tap water. Her Excellency Leslia Miller-Brice, Member of Parliament for Sea Breeze, was on site for the final tie-in of the new line – restoring consistent, safe water for the community.

Miller-Brice expressed deep appreciation to Minister of Works and Family Island Affairs Hon Clay Sweeting, Minister of Water and Sewerage Hon Leon Lundy, and their teams for prioritizing the Sea Breeze area.

“Clean, clear water. This has been a long time coming for the residents of Sea Breeze,” Miller-Brice reflected while on site for the final connection. “Just a basic necessity that every Bahamian deserves in their country.”

Globally, aging water systems have become a widespread challenge. Many countries still rely on mid-20th-century steel and cast-iron pipes that corrode over time, compromising water quality and causing frequent leaks. In some jurisdictions, experts estimate that as much as 30–50 percent of treated water is lost through outdated infrastructure. Modern PVC and HDPE mains, however, offer far greater durability, improved safety standards, and significantly reduced maintenance costs. While upgrades of this scale can be expensive and disruptive, they represent one of the most critical long-term investments a government can make in public health and national resilience.

When asked how she felt now that the project has been completed, Miller-Brice said: “This brings joy to my heart. I’m just happy that I was able to be part of what’s happening in this community.”

With the new water main now in place, the next step is the long-awaited repaving of Joe Farrington Road – another frustration for residents and motorists passing through the area. Temporarily worsened by the necessary infrastructure works, once resurfaced, the roadway will offer a safer, smoother transit through the constituency.

She noted that these upgrades are part of her broader mission to build a better Sea Breeze, grounded in reliable infrastructure and responsive governance. A mission clearly supported by the government at large as they continue to seek ways to improve every day life for every Bahamian.
