Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis commented on the ongoing sick out by nurses over unpaid overtime while speaking with reporters over the weekend.
Mr. Davis characterized the situation as disappointing. He said, “when I think about what this government, this administration and me in particular, recognizing the value of nurses, recognizing the sacrifices they make and also recognizing the fact that we are under siege by other jurisdictions to lure them away from their home jurisdiction we have been doing our best to ensure that they are properly compensated.’
The Prime Minister expressed his commitment to resolving any outstanding matters. He said the overtime payments came to the attention of the government within the week and arrangements for payment were made within the same week.
“For them to have taken…it was unfortunate because they have to trust me and if they don’t trust me then the question is trust goes both ways. I want to trust them but they have to demonstrate they trust me too. They worked their overtime. I’m not someone who believes that government should rob their citizens nor do I believe citizens should rob their government. They said they would be paid and the funds were made available to them,” Mr. Davis said.
