The Public Hospitals Authority (PHA) is pleased to advise effective Monday, March 9, 2026, the upgraded and expanded Emergency Department (ED) entrance, located on Elizabeth Avenue, is officially open to the public.
This opening marks a pivotal shift in patient access and flow. All walk-in patients seeking emergency medical attention are now encouraged to utilize the designated Elizabeth Avenue entrance for assessment and care.
The PHA reminds the public that the Emergency Department is strictly reserved for life-threatening
emergencies and acute medical crises. To ensure that critical resources remain available for
those in urgent need, individuals with non-emergency conditions such as minor aches, routine
check-ups, or flu symptoms are strongly advised to seek care at their local community health
clinics or through their private physicians.
The Public Hospitals Authority remains committed to providing high-quality, efficient, and
compassionate emergency care to the Bahamian people across all our institutions and
agencies.
