Surge At The Pumps

Bahamian Media News:

Bahamians are now feeling the impact of the war in Iran with increased oil and gas prices in the country. Prices at one gas retailer has gone up by more than $1.00 to $6.58 per gallon.

Bahamas Petroleum Retailers Association Vice President, Vasco Bastian told ZNS News the rise in prices was inevitable. He said, “this is really bringing its toll and putting added pressure on world oil supply. And so this is definitely as a result of that, that crisis.”

Bastian assured that the higher prices are only temporary. He said, “these prices will not last forever. These prices have to come back down and they will come back down. Just hang in there and continue to be safe and buckle up.”

Patrons of various gas stations also expressed their views on the issue. One man said, “it’s something that we cannot control because its a global situation and the only thing we can do is buckle down be very conservative.” Meanwhile a female motorist was unaware of what was going on. She said, “I’m shocked because I didn’t actually know about it. It’s rough cause its pricey now.”

According to Bastian government intervention has helped to prevent an even higher increase in prices. “If the Prime Minister had not done what he did. You would find gas prices would have probably gone over $8.00. I admit it, the government behind the scenes is doing all that they can and continue to do all they can to keep prices at a comfortable,” he said.
