The Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) has released its plans for its second term in office.
The party hosted a launch event at the University of The Bahamas on Wednesday where several candidates including current Cabinet ministers revealed the commitments in the Blueprint for Progress.
Prime Minister and PLP Leader, the Hon. Philip Davis led the list of speakers telling supporters the party had completed or commenced 325 of the 387 commitments made in the Blueprint for Change released in 2021.
He said, “I am proud to run on our track record. It is not perfect but we have lifted the country out of the multiple crises we met and put us on a path of growth and positive national development. Those challenging us should be inviting to defend their own track record and explain to the Bahamians the many failures of their previous administration. Our new platform, Building On Progress, commits us to building on those existing plans and expanding on our ambition for the country for the next term.”
According to Deputy Prime Minister and PLP Deputy Leader, the Hon. Chester Cooper the PLP believes its term in office has been good for the country. “We must never forget where we were in 2021. We must never forget the feeling of hopelessness, uncertainty and vulnerability. There was a cry for transformative change and there was a cry across this country for stable, compassionate leadership and our Prime Minister answered that call.”
The party also promised to increase home ownership in its next term. This came from the PLP candidate for Fort Charlotte, Sebastian Bastian. He said, “we will significantly expand our rent to own program that will simplify access and provide essential workers, who serve our country every single day, with an opportunity to own themselves a home.”
The government also released a tracker of its 2021 commitments that can be found https://blueprint-tracker.gov.bs/
