Bahamian Media News:

The Insurance Commission of The Bahamas was proud to sponsor the 3rd Annual Fertility Empowerment International Conference 2026, held at Atlantis, Paradise Island. The conference brought together regional and international stakeholders to advance critical dialogue on fertility, women’s wellness, and holistic health.

As the regulator of the insurance industry, the Insurance Commission recognises the essential link
between health, financial protection, and social wellbeing. Supporting initiatives focused on fertility
and women’s health aligns with the Commission’s mandate to promote a responsive, inclusive, and
sustainable insurance sector that reflects the evolving needs of families and the workforce.

The Commission’s engagement extended beyond sponsorship through participation by two team
members who contributed as panel speakers. Ms. Trishawna Kelly, Senior Analyst in the Examinations Unit, shared a personal perspective drawn from her experience as a cancer survivor.

Ms. Kelly highlighted the important questions many women face following serious illness, including
fertility considerations and navigating the next phase of life. Her contribution emphasized the human
impact of health challenges and the need for compassionate healthcare and insurance frameworks
that support women beyond survival.

The Commission was also represented by Mrs. Aanica Scavella, Human Resource Manager, who
spoke from an employer and Human Resources perspective. Mrs. Scavella emphasized the
importance of HR being at the table to advocate for an organisation’s most valuable resource, its
people and the need for empathy and open dialogue around fertility and women’s health in the
workplace. She further highlighted the role of employer-provided insurance coverage as a key
component of employee wellness, noting that benefits must be structured to meaningfully support
women’s health needs and strengthen workforce engagement and stability.

Through its sponsorship and participation, the Insurance Commission reaffirmed its role not only as
a regulator, but also as a champion for education, advocacy, and collaboration on issues affecting
women’s health and economic participation. The Commission remains committed to supporting
initiatives that encourage thoughtful dialogue and people-centred insurance solutions.
